Variety is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio will officially be playing a role in the Sony distributed, Quentin Tarantino untitled Charles Manson film. This has been subject of numerous talks over the course of the last few months, so we are glad to finally see it happening.
DiCaprio hasn’t appeared in anything since Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant in 2015. I can understand why since the production for that film was reportedly a grueling experience. Leo will reportedly portray a washed-up actor that can’t seem to land an acting job. Alongside DiCaprio, sources have confirmed to Variety that Tarantino is also pursing actors Tom Cruise and Al Pacino for roles.
I am always curious to see what he (DiCaprio) brings, but more so for this movie. In a lot of roles, he often chooses to play characters that are larger-than-life (my favorite performance of his is actually in The Departed, 2006). Here, it seems as if he will be taking it down a few notches and going back to the basics. I can’t be certain of this, though, because it is still a Tarantino film at the core.
The film will open on August 9th, 2019; the 50th anniversary of the day that the Manson family committed the LaBianca murders and the day after Tate was killed. Unsure of what to expect from the film, we will wait for more plot details and casting news. Be sure to follow us on social media to never miss an update!
