Dan Harmon, creator of the popular show Rick and Morty, took to Twitter to respond to a fan who called him lazy for not working on Season 4.

“I hear ya, tough spot. On one hand, it can be challenging, especially with crippling lazy alcoholism, to write a show that hasn’t been ordered by a network. On the other hand, the thought that fans like you pay the price…I mean…I’m gonna grab a drink…”

It’s been a few months since the end of Season 3 and Adult Swim has yet to order another season; it was 2 years from the end of Season 2 to the premiere of Season 3. While I question why the network is waiting so long, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t renew the show. Rick and Morty has a pretty hefty following and has only grown since its inception. Personally, I believe the quality of the show outweighs the need for more episodes or shorter wait periods.

It’s very obvious that Harmon and the creative team are excited to work on the series, even though the wait might have some questioning the process. Ryan Ridley, the show’s writer, recently revealed that it could be late 2019 before we see anything from Season 4.

“They really take their time. I never understood why everybody — all parties, Dan [Harmon], Justin [Roiland], and Adult Swim — didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast; I just don’t get it. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m sure they all have their reasons.”

What do you think of this news? Could Adult Swim possibly be uninterested in the show? Let us know in the comments below.
