That’s right. Reports have surfaced from Collider that series star, Andrew Lincoln will not be reprising his iconic role of Rick Grimes after Season 9. We break down the news below!

What will this mean for the show moving forward? Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Green on the show, has also taken an episode order cut from previous seasons; she will only be on screen for six episodes due to her role on ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier. This came after the debacle last year regarding her pay on AMC’s hit TV show.

[Spoilers Ahead]

This begs the question on whether the show has the longevity the showrunners feel that it does. Just recently, we lost Chandler Riggs’ Carl Grimes after a devastating death. Fans of the show were wondering how the show could possibly continue after that loss. Now fans will have to wonder how the show could possibly continue after Lincoln’s exit.

Norman Reedus will most likely remain on the show even if AMC decides to continue the series without it’s frontrunner, but his character has not been written well enough within recent seasons to justify making him the lead. Who else will exit the show after the next season? By the looks of it, Lauren Cohan will most likely leave if her new show is more successful. What about Melissa McBride?

My take? Cancel the show after Season 9. Let Andrew Lincoln be the start and end of the series. Give the cast of The Walking Dead the option to move to Fear the Walking Dead, much like Lennie James did for this seasonI could almost guarantee that most of the cast would move onto bigger and better projects; but that’s my opinion.
